As a Lecturer in Viola at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, you'll have the opportunity to shape the future of viola performance and education. You'll inspire and train aspiring professional musicians, contribute to cutting-edge practice-led research, and play a key role in the Conservatorium's dynamic strings program. This role offers you the chance to make a significant impact on musical culture while advancing your own artistic practice and academic career.
Your responsibilities will include:
Deliver Exceptional Viola Education: Provide individual lessons, performance classes, and ensemble coaching at all levels, while coordinating strings subjects and recruiting high-quality students.
Advance Practice-Led Research: Contribute to performance-based research through concerts, recordings, and publications, while supervising graduate researchers in strings performance.
Engage with the Musical Community: Participate in Conservatorium events, foster industry partnerships, and contribute to professional organisations in strings performance.
Provide Leadership and Service: Contribute to program planning, curriculum development, and committee work within the Conservatorium and wider University community.
You may be a great fit if:
You are an accomplished violist and educator with a distinguished performance profile, demonstrating excellence in teaching and a commitment to advancing viola performance and pedagogy through innovative approaches to repertoire, research, and student development.
You may also:
Possess a postgraduate qualification in viola performance (doctorate preferred) or equivalent professional experience.
Have a nationally or internationally recognised track record of significant performances and recordings across diverse repertoires.
Demonstrate expertise in viola repertoires from the 18th to 21st centuries, with a commitment to representing diversity in programming.
Show evidence of excellence in teaching and recruiting undergraduate and postgraduate viola students.
Exhibit the ability to develop a distinctive program of performance-based research and deliver high-quality research outputs.
Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach to working within an academic environment.
