Mirna Butler Recruitment is recruiting for our client, a leading family-owned vegetable farming operation with extensive land across two states. This enterprise is home to the largest carrot farm in Western Australia, producing over 100 tonnes of carrots weekly, with 90% exported globally.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced South African farm manager seeking a stable, long-term career abroad in a supportive and innovative agricultural environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee all stages of carrot production: planting, irrigation, pest control, and harvesting
Lead and manage a team of farm workers, fostering a safe and productive work culture
Coordinate farm operations including machinery maintenance, irrigation systems, and soil health practices
Monitor crop health and implement quality assurance measures
Manage budgets, procurement, and resource allocation
Ensure compliance with Australian agricultural regulations and biosecurity standards
Implement modern farming techniques including precision agriculture
Maintain accurate records of yields, expenses, and operational activities
Requirements:
Minimum 5 years’ experience in vegetable farming (ideally 10), with at least 2 years in a management role
Strong knowledge of carrot or similar crop production
Proven leadership and team management skills
Familiarity with agricultural regulations and biosecurity standards
Proficiency in operating and maintaining farm machinery
Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities
Relevant qualification in agriculture or horticulture (preferred but not essential)
Desirable Skills:
Experience with GPS-guided equipment and automated irrigation systems
Knowledge of sustainable or organic farming practices
Strong communication and data analysis skills
Working Conditions:
Outdoor work in a Mediterranean climate
Occasional weekend or evening work during peak seasons
Physical fitness required for manual tasks and machinery operation
