Job Title: Skilled Horticultural Worker (Vine Grafting) - Full Time Permanent
Salary: $73,150 per annum
Location: Australia - Predominantly South Australia, Victoria, and Perth
Work Location: On the road (must be willing to travel)
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and experienced Horticultural Worker, with a specialization in vine grafting. This full-time, permanent role will involve working across various regions in Australia. The ideal candidate will bring advanced grafting expertise and contribute to the overall success of vineyard and orchard operations year-round.
Skills and Experience Required
- At least 3 years of experience in vine grafting, as well as propagation, crop cultivation, harvest, and post-harvest activities in a production horticulture setting.
- Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor settings, with flexibility to handle tasks across diverse environments, such as nurseries, farms, or vineyards.
- Advanced vine grafting techniques and knowledge, ensuring successful grafting outcomes.
- Solid understanding of vineyard and orchard management, including tasks like pest control, irrigation, and general crop care.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with growers and farm teams.
- Willingness to travel and work across multiple regions.
Key Responsibilities
- Vine Grafting & Vineyard Evaluation:
Apply your advanced grafting skills to assess vineyard conditions, select appropriate budwood, and execute grafting procedures that meet specific regional climate and varietal requirements.
- Grafting Execution & Troubleshooting:
Perform grafting tasks including cutting, grafting, and binding, while offering ongoing support to ensure optimal success rates. Troubleshoot and advise growers to resolve any issues that may arise during the grafting process.
- Farm & Orchard Maintenance:
Support general farm and orchard activities, such as planting, maintaining irrigation systems, pest management, and crop care, ensuring the overall health and productivity of crops.
- Collaboration with Growers:
Work closely with growers to understand their needs, providing expert guidance on grafting techniques and ensuring that best practices are followed for successful crop development.
Manage tasks across different seasons, switching between grafting, propagation, and general farm duties as required to support ongoing vineyard and orchard operations.
- Team Coordination & Efficiency:
Ensure that work schedules are maintained, tasks are completed on time, and communication with the wider team is effective to support seamless operations across different regions.
