Position Objective and Purpose
The role of Senior CNC Machining Operative is hands-on, focusing on optimizing production processes and implementing best practices within our manufacturing operations. You will play a crucial role in operating 5-axis CNC machines, providing technical support to other CNC machinists, and ensuring that project output targets are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Production Oversight
As a Senior CNC Machining Operative, you will manage the daily operations of a team of CNC operators, ensuring efficient use of resources to meet production goals. Your role includes operating advanced 4 and 5 Axis machining centers equipped with Heidenhain and Fanuc controls, focusing on manufacturing components that meet defense industry specifications.
Ensuring Delivery in Full On Time (DIFOT)
You will maintain the DIFOT KPI by overseeing machining processes and swiftly implementing recovery plans when targets are not achieved.
Quality Assurance
You will be responsible for adhering to and enforcing quality standards, ensuring defect-free output, and managing any non-conforming products through the manufacturing process.
Continuous Improvement Initiatives
Your role will involve initiating and managing continuous improvement activities to enhance all operational processes.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance
You will ensure that all health, safety, and environmental regulations are strictly followed within the manufacturing areas.
Required Experience and Skills
- 5+ years of CNC production experience, specifically with 5-axis CNC machines.
- Experience in the Defense or Aerospace industry is preferred but not mandatory.
- Expertise in high-speed machining techniques, especially with light metal alloys.
- Proven ability to lead machining process improvement activities.
- Strong problem-solving skills, particularly in diagnosing and resolving machining issues.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with other departmental managers to resolve production challenges.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience within an AS/EN 9100 Quality Management System.
- Knowledge of GD&T standards (ASME/ISO).
- Familiarity with Heidenhain and Fanuc control systems.
- Current residence in Brisbane.
