About the Role
The successful candidate must be adaptable to location changes based on operational needs and priorities. You can choose between 9 day fortnight roster or our intercity roster (9 days on-site, 5 days off, 5 days on-site, 2 days off, 4 days remote, 3 days off). On-site accommodation and meals are provided.
Key Responsibilities
As the Strategic Operations Manager, you will:
- Maintain and optimise the site integrated plan based on identified plant risks and improvement opportunities, including stakeholder requirements and constraints:
- Monthly, quarterly, annual and multi-year operational planning / alignment
- Monthly forecast (and 12-month rolling plan) updates
- Annual production plan / budget (and 5-year rolling plan) updates
- Facilitator and coordinator for designated OE&R processes that align manufacturing teams on operational forecasts, targets and plans:
- Site daily plant review.
- Weekly Operations Review meeting.
- Weekly report updates (including projection versus forecast)
- Adhoc facilitation and coordination for significant unplanned plant impacts
- Facilitator and coordinator (link) for other internal functions to the site manufacturing team and the site plan:
- Capital and projects (T&I team)
- SHE focus areas, awareness, etc. (SHE team)
- Training plans (HR / L&D team)
- Inventory, critical spares, etc. (SC team)
- Facilitator and coordinator (site link) for regional / global stakeholders – for activities / requests related to the manufacturing team and the site plan:
- IBP – feedstock and product (pigment) planning
- Significant impacts from suppliers (raw materials, utilities, etc.)
- Global OE / NewTron team (via BIC)
- Global BI team (via BIC)
- Tronox stakeholder visits, requests
- External stakeholder (e.g. regulatory, audit) visits
- Plan, coordinate & implement improvements that support the Manufacturing team:
- OE&R meeting audits;
- Improvement initiatives – from internal & / or external sources;
- Business planning;
- Etc.
About you:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A degree in Metallurgy, Engineering, Project Management or similar relevant discipline, desirable
- Systematic, structured and proactive approach:
- Able to apply the ’80 / 20’ rule (not over-analyse) and move / change quickly to meet deadlines and / or ensure urgency
- Prepared ahead of time for meetings / commitments
- Draft plans prepared and communicated ahead of time to ensure efficient and effective meetings
- Able to plan and meet deadlines and agreed commitments
- Able to facilitate timely and effective meetings (keep on track)
- Able to prepare and present information in simple and clear terms for multiple different target audiences
- Information needs to be presented in an accurate, timely and clear way (adjusted as required for the target group)

- Able to form good two-way relationships with all required internal and external stakeholders
- Direct communication (face to face where possible, or via Teams or phone) utilised as much as possible, with e-mail updates utilised to confirm and align on agreed plans

- Particularly important to stay closely connected and aligned with core Manufacturing team peers – with strong and supportive two-way relationships in place
- Strong understanding of core (manufacturing) business needs and constraints:
- Advocate and ally for the Manufacturing Managers
- Able to understand the (bigger picture) full site constraints and priorities
- Willing and able to keep an active and regular presence and connection with plant personnel and plant changes
- Willing and able to improve understanding in specific ‘blind spot’ areas
