About the Role
Join a dynamic team at our university's Centre for Quantum Computation and Communication (CQC2T) and push the boundaries of quantum technology.
As a postdoctoral researcher in Ion Beam Applications and Quantum Processor Development, you'll be at the forefront of groundbreaking research, exploring the potential of quantum measurement and sensing using spins in the solid-state.
The successful candidate will be appointed at the appropriate level (A/B) based upon the Selection Panel's assessment of the individual's application.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Undertake internationally competitive research on quantum sensing and nanoscale magnetometry leading to journal publications with other members of the Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computation and Communication Technology (CQC2T) and relevant research groups within the School of Physics and the wider University as required by the CQC2T research goals.
- Pursue the quantum sensing focussed goals as laid out in the CQC2T research program.
- Liaise closely with research students and other members of the CQC2T programs at the university node and across the Centre as required.
Who We Are Looking For
You are a highly motivated and independent researcher with a strong background in quantum device fabrication and/or sensing using spin systems in the solid-state.
Your passion for academic research is evident, and you have a proven ability to excel in a competitive research environment.
You will also have:
- A PhD or equivalent in a relevant area of experimental physics.
- An ability to work closely with a team towards a common goal, and independently
- A demonstrated aptitude for research, with a sound publication record in relevant areas, commensurate with experience and opportunities.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare research reports and manuscripts for publication.
This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.

The postdoctoral position is associated with the Experimental Condensed Matter Physics (ECMP) group in the School of Physics. The ECMP group undertakes high quality, high impact research in a diverse range of fields including quantum science and quantum technologies development, accelerator-based microanalysis and elemental mapping, and biosciences and bio-engineering. The successful applicant will have an opportunity to work in a team of highly motivated researchers and professional staff. The accelerator laboratory is supported through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Scheme (NCRIS) as a node of the Heavy Ion Accelerator (HIA) platform and this position is supported through that program.
