If you are interstate or overseas this could be your chance of a lifetime to experience what it is to be Tasmanian.
To be Tasmanian is to value quality over quantity. We create, preserve and protect the unusual. With quiet confidence, with passion and perseverance, we pursue the extraordinary. Could you be Tasmanian?
Your leadership path could take you anywhere. What’s different about Tasmania is our culture and lifestyle. Here, you will be encouraged to be your authentic self, to share your wisdom with our emerging generation of medical doctors, and in doing so, find your purpose.
Our remoteness helps drive a culture of invention and human connection, which feels both old-fashioned and… like the only future worth pursuing. Here in Tasmania, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to breathtaking coastlines, National Parks or award-winning restaurants or bars.
Some people surf in the early mornings and go fly fishing on weekends or take photography classes, write novels, sell preserves at the weekly farmers’ markets, learn to mountain bike. They take part in the community, volunteering and serving on boards. And their spouses and children have similar opportunities to thrive in a quieter, safer, more adventurous place.
Something is happening here, and you’re invited to be part of it.
It’s not where you were born. It’s who you are, and who you want to be. Be Tasmanian.
The Role of the Registrar – Emergency Department
Based in the scenic waterfront area Tasmania, as one of our Registrars you’ll provide emergency care to patients attending the Emergency Department (ED).
You will be encouraged to be yourself, to learn, to grow and to develop meaning in your work. The on-the-ground experience you’ll gain throughout the year with us will set in motion a career pathway to choose your own adventure! Whether you choose critical care specialities, General Practice or something else, your practical and academic experiences will empower your future.
Registrar rostering provides flexibility to maintain a work-life balance. Shift and leave requests are incorporated into the roster and pairing of rosters for joint applicants can occur. It is required for our registrars to work a mix of day, evening, night and weekend shifts. Shifts are 9.5-hour duration for day and evenings and night shifts 10 hours. Full time work is 8 clinical shifts per fortnight.
The education program is highly valued within the department and runs as a full day each fortnight. Registrars are specifically rostered to these days to avoid clinical demands interfering with their attendance. In addition to the whole-cohort education program, there are separate and dedicated preparation programs for the ACEM primary and fellowship examinations.
You will be joining a department dedicated to the wellbeing of its staff, exemplified by winning the ACEM Wellbeing Award in 2022 for our numerous wellbeing strategies embedded in our daily work practices.
The Emergency Department provides opportunities for you to gain additional qualifications in Emergency Medicine, such as:
- Emergency Medicine Certificate
- Intermediate Emergency Medicine Training Program
- Advance Emergency Medicine Training Program
- Extended Skills Training for GP Trainees
- Advanced Specialised Training for ACCRM Trainees
Through it all, you will work with a vibrant mix of locals and new Tasmanian adventurers who are all dedicated to making a difference in our state. Tasmania is experiencing a sustained period of growth. Come and be part of an exciting and rewarding place to work where your energy and positive values will contribute to sustained change as we grow. We can’t wait to welcome you into our team!
