Our company is looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, and conscientious nurse to lead the Internal Medicine Nurse team. Our company is a well-equipped, multi-specialist veterinary hospital is in the heart of Melbourne. It is a rapidly growing clinic with a busy and interesting caseload. We aim for gold standard patient care at all times and pride ourselves on our friendly, cohesive working environment. We strive for excellent relationships with our referring veterinarians and clients.
The Medicine team consists of two full-time and one part-time internal medicine clinicians, as well as our excellent support staff. We work closely with the specialist surgery and 24-hour emergency and critical care departments. Our priority is to provide outstanding patient care with compassion whilst maintaining exceptional clinical standards.
The Role
The internal medicine head nurse position is an exciting opportunity to extend and advance your nursing career. The role will comprise of clinical and administrative duties, responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Co-ordination of the daily operation and tasks of the medicine department through continuous and clear communication with senior members of all departments.
- Care of both hospitalised patients and outpatients, assisting in sample collection, sedation, preparation, restraint, and anaesthesia of medicine patients for further specialised diagnostics, such as ultrasound or endoscopy
- Daily communication with both clients and referring veterinarians.
- Optimise scheduling of appointments and procedures throughout the week.
- Working with the senior nurses in other departments to maintain cleanliness/hygiene and order of the hospital.
- Supervision and growth of the medicine nursing staff.
- Co-ordination of the medicine nursing roster.
- Monitoring of stock levels of medicine-only consumables
- Equipment maintenance.
About You
The ideal candidate would have a Cert IV or higher in veterinary nursing. They would be professional, genuine, and personable, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills. It is important that the successful candidate works well with our team and is able to adapt to and problem-solve any challenges that may come their way. While previous referral hospital experience is preferred, previous leadership experience is advantageous but not essential; we will help you develop your leadership skills.
