We are seeking interest from suitably qualified General Surgeons with sub-specialty experience in Upper Gastrointestinal, Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary, and/or Bariatric Surgery for a Staff Specialist (General Surgery) vacancy.
This role has been established to improve the delivery of UGI, HPB, and Bariatric surgical services. The clinical work in this role will involve outpatient and elective services in the relevant specialty and sub-specialty fields, as well as acute / emergency cases as part of the Department of General Surgery's Emergency Surgical Unit (ESU). The successful candidate would also be involved in training of registrars, junior medical officers and students. There are also opportunities to be involved with other teaching, research, and administrative activities.

In the role Staff Specialist - General Surgery you will:
- Provide quality specialist and sub-specialty services in inpatient and outpatient settings to public and private patients of our hospital.
- Be involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
- Be actively involved in research.
- Undertake quality improvement activities.

Salary
Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award
A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.
Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $216,300 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $296,640 with further salary increments available.
- Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 - $310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Allowance in lieu of motor vehicle currently set at $28,389 pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly (with CPI indexation on 1 July each year).
- Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 pro rata per annum.
- Relocation allowance.
- On call allowance % of Base Salary.
- All other allowances as per current Award.
- And subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of Base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.

Essential Requirements
- Holds specialist registration; or
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.
