Our company and Department of Gynaecological Oncology is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Staff Specialist - Gynaecological Oncologist position.
Suitable applicants should hold a Certificate of Gynaecologic Oncology (CGO) from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists or equivalent international qualifications. Additionally, any applicant in the final stages of their CGO training would be welcome to apply for the position.

The Department of Gynaecologic Oncology forms part of the Department of Women's and Children's services at our hospital. It is one of the few state-wide medical services in Tasmania. The service is based in Hobart but does offer an outreach service in Launceston in the North of the state.
The Role
- Providing surgery for women with gynaecological cancers, genetic risk of cancer, genital tract dysplasia including colposcopy and complex benign gynaecological conditions such as placenta accreta spectrum.
- In addition to surgery, the role involves outpatient clinics, regular multidisciplinary team meetings, on-call commitments and outreach clinics, on a regular basis, at the Launceston General Hospital
- The position is supported by a full-time nursing Gynaecological Cancer Care Co-ordinator.
- The department of Gynaecologic Oncology also has a full-time senior registrar/Fellow that works exclusively in the department. In addition, there is junior medical officer support.

Salary
Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award
A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.
Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $216,300 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $296,640 with further salary increments available.
- Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 - $310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle (subject to working full-time hours) OR allowance in lieu of motor vehicle currently set at $28,389 pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly (with CPI indexation on 1 July each year).
- Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 pro rata per annum.
- Relocation allowance.
- On call allowance % of Base Salary.
- All other allowances as per current Award.
- And subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of Base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.

Details of Appointment
Permanent, full-time day work (with on-call), working 76 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible from 3 February 2025.

Essential Requirements
- Holds specialist registration; or
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.
- Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration
