The Havelock Place is a contemporary restaurant located in a stunning heritage-listed venue in Canterbury. Our food philosophy is centred around bold flavours, refined techniques, and creative expression. We draw inspiration from diverse Asian flavour profiles and encourage chefs to explore, layer, and balance ingredients using modern and progressive cooking approaches.
We are particularly interested in chefs with experience in Thai, Filipino, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Malaysian and other East and South Asian cuisines. A strong understanding of flavour depth, spice balance, fermentation, heat, and contemporary presentation is highly valued.
We are now seeking experienced chefs to join our kitchen team as we continue to build a strong, creative, and disciplined operation.
About the Role
This role is suited to chefs who are confident working in a fast-paced, high-standard kitchen and who enjoy pushing flavour boundaries while maintaining consistency and precision. You’ll work closely with senior chefs during service, contribute to preparation and execution, and uphold high food safety and hygiene standards.
Positions are available across full-time and part-time roles, commencing from 1 March.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for chefs who:
Have proven experience in busy restaurants, premium casual or fine dining environments
Are confident working service and handling pressure
Have a strong understanding of flavour development, seasoning, and balance
Are curious, creative, and keen to experiment with different ingredients and techniques
Maintain high standards of kitchen discipline, hygiene, and teamwork
Experience in Sri Lankan cuisine is highly regarded but not mandatory. We strongly encourage chefs with backgrounds in Thai, Filipino, Indonesian, Malaysian, or other Southeast Asian cuisines to apply. A passion for contemporary, flavour-driven cooking is essential. Hotel kitchen experience is highly regarded.
