Your next career opportunity
As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Anatomy and Physiology, you'll be at the forefront of research on metabolic disease, brain-body signalling, and therapeutic innovation. You'll lead independent and collaborative projects that investigate neural regulation of metabolism, leveraging cutting-edge technologies like in vivo microdialysis and advanced transgenic models. This role offers you the chance to shape emerging research directions, contribute to high-impact publications, and mentor the next generation of scientists.
Your responsibilities will include:
Conducting Innovative Research: Design and execute complex in vivo studies, manipulate neural circuits, and develop in vitro screening pipelines.
Mentoring and training students: Provide technical and academic guidance to Honours, Masters, and PhD students, fostering scientific curiosity and professional growth.
Collaborating and Communicating: Engage in cross-disciplinary projects, contribute to publications, and present research findings at conferences.
Upholding University Values: Promote diversity, inclusion, and high standards of ethics and integrity in all research activities.
You may be a great fit if:
You are an experienced researcher with a PhD in neuroscience, skilled in animal-based experiments, molecular biology techniques, and passionate about advancing metabolic neuroscience through innovative research.
You may also:
Possess expertise in molecular biology.
Have experience with small laboratory animals, including handling, anaesthetisation and surgery.
Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in research teams.
Be proficient in stereotaxic surgery and immunohistochemistry techniques.
Exhibit intellectual curiosity and a desire to build an academic career trajectory.

The Department of Anatomy and Physiology is a highly successful teaching and research department within the School of Biomedical Sciences. We teach into the Bachelor of Biomedical Science and the Master of Biomedical Science through the delivery of subjects across the teaching disciplines of Anatomy, Cell & Developmental Biology, Neuroscience, and Physiology. Our teaching programs are widely recognised for their innovative approach and delivery, both through the development of online resources and in the use of student-focused, active learning approaches. Constant review and refinement of the curriculum and educational methods ensures that we best prepare students for scientific independence as they enter graduate and postgraduate professional and research careers.
