Tomiko Japanese Steak House is one of the Glenelg’s loved venues. We offer Teppanyaki Japanese grilled food, authentic Japanese cuisine and an extensive beverage list.
We are looking for an enthusiastic full-time Teppanyaki Chef who love Japanese cuisine, with an understanding of kitchen system, a passion for cooking, service and the restaurant industry.
About the role
As a key member of the team, responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Provide an entertaining and dynamic cooking experience through exceptional knife skills, flame cooking, and other teppanyaki techniques
Foster a memorable dining atmosphere, interacting with guests in a friendly manner
Perform kitchen operation duties, knife skills, mis en place, cooking techniques & duties
Produce dishes of a consistently high standard, presentation, taste and quality
Maintain equipment, utensils and a clean & hygienic kitchen
Rotate stock, ensuring minimal wastage
Work well in a team environment and follow directions from senior chefs
Follow WHS, policies and procedures
Skills and experience
To be successful for this role, we are looking for a candidate with the following minimum experience and skills:
Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role
Be able to manage or work in a busy kitchen
Take pride and be passionate about their work
Be reliable and have a strong work ethic
Good communication and great attitude is a must
Be available over a 7day rotating roster
Capable to work independently and take decision when time is constraint
Certificate 3 in Cookery qualification
Demonstrated experience as a Teppanyaki chef in a Japanese Restaurant
Strong knowledge of traditional and contemporary Japanese ingredients, flavours, cookery & presentation techniques
Advanced knife skills and ability to perform teppanyaki cooking tricks with professionalism and flair
Ability to engage with guests, creating an interactive and enjoyable dining experience
