About the opportunity
The Australian Maritime College (AMC) is looking for a passionate team player with seafaring experience to join their Ocean Seafaring team.
This is an opportunity to inspire and influence existing and future seafarers through high quality, industry relevant, rewarding training activities.
This role involves teaching and academic administration duties across deck, engineering, and safety subjects.
The nature of the teaching will include preparing and delivering practice-based theory lessons, tutorials, practical training sessions (with both simulation and live vessels), and the associated assessment development, marking and moderation.
The role is based in Launceston and will also include training delivery at our Beauty Point and Bell Bay campuses. Field trips to industry settings, interstate travel and occasional international travel may be required.
As a Teaching Focused practice-based academic, you will make a significant contribution to teaching with an emphasis on contemporary practitioner-based activities, currency of skills and expertise, and knowledge relevant to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers.
What you'll do:
Develop education, training and assessment resources suitable for both face-to-face and online delivery and undertake moderation of these resources.
Safely co-ordinate and conduct lectures, tutorials, practical classes, workshops, field excursions and assessments both in-person and online, prioritising positive student experience.
Support and enhance the research and scholarly contributions of the AMC's Centre for Seafaring and Maritime Operations.
Foster and maintain strong, collaborative relationships within the university and across relevant sectors locally, nationally and internationally.
What we're looking for:
A demonstrated ability to prepare and conduct training using a range of innovative and flexible delivery and assessment methods, and to prepare and conduct curriculum, teaching and training, practical classes, field excursions. and to assess student achievement.
A demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment, using excellent interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills.
A strong record of relevant sea service within the international maritime sector, including experience that supports teaching Marine Electrical/Electronic Engineering, High Voltage and Engine Room Simulation topics.
Qualifications and Licences
An AMSA recognized Master's (Class 1/Unlimited) certificate of competency (CoC)
A demonstrated ability to prepare and conduct training using a range of innovative and flexible delivery and assessment methods.
A demonstrated ability to undertake curriculum development, practical classes, field excursions and the ability to assess student achievement.
A strong record of sea service within the international maritime sector.
A proven team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level A and will have a total remuneration package of up to $125,877 comprising base salary within the range of $83,198 to $107,587 plus 17% superannuation.
