Role Purpose

The Barista role is essential to delivering exceptional customer experiences and building the café's reputation for quality coffee and service. This role involves technical coffee preparation skills, customer interaction, and maintaining high hygiene and food safety standards. The Barista is accountable for product quality, customer satisfaction, and safe food handling. This position is vital to the café's success and customer loyalty in the regional market.

The role operates within a café environment, preparing specialty coffee beverages including espresso-based drinks, alternative milk options, and specialty drinks according to recipes and customer preferences. This includes operating espresso machines, grinders, milk frothers, and other café equipment safely and maintaining them in good working condition.

The Barista provides friendly, efficient customer service, takes orders, manages cash and card payments, and maintains a clean, welcoming café environment. Responsibilities include food preparation assistance, restocking supplies, and adhering to food safety and hygiene protocols. The role requires time management skills to serve customers during peak periods and maintain quality standards.

Key performance indicators include customer satisfaction ratings, product quality consistency, food safety compliance (100%), cash handling accuracy, and operational efficiency. The candidate will demonstrate value through technical barista skills, customer service excellence, reliability, and commitment to quality and hygiene standards.

Requirements

We're Looking For

• Current Barista Certificate or equivalent qualification (or willingness to obtain).

• Minimum 2-3 years of barista or café experience.

• Expert knowledge of coffee types, brewing methods, and specialty drink preparation.

• Strong customer service and communication skills with a friendly, welcoming approach.

• Physical capability to stand for extended periods and manage the pace of a busy café.

• Attention to detail in beverage preparation and presentation.

• Ability to work efficiently during peak service times.

• Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards for café environments.

• Teamwork and ability to support other café staff.

• Flexibility to work variable shifts including weekends and public holidays.

Mandatory Requirements

• Current Barista Certificate or equivalent café qualification - HIGH PRIORITY

• Food Safety Certificate (appropriate level for café/food service environment) - MANDATORY

• Police check (pre-employment requirement) - clear history essential, MANDATORY

• Valid Australian work visa or sponsorship requirements documented
