Technical Director – System Engineering and Integration
Lead the systems strategy behind Australia’s first High Speed Rail program.
This is a senior systems engineering and integration leadership role across a once-in-a-lifetime landmark national rail program. You will sit across the overall railway systems strategy, bringing together engineering functions, safety requirements, integration planning and technical decision-making during the ECI phase.
This opportunity is open to both local and international candidates, with visa sponsorship and relocation costs available for suitably qualified professionals.
Who you will be working with:
You will join a global rail technology and infrastructure leader bidding to deliver the full turnkey railway systems package for Australia’s first High Speed Rail program.
The systems scope is broad and includes rolling stock, ETCS signalling, ticketing, communications, security, CCTV, access control, tunnel ventilation, fire systems and wider fire and life safety systems. This role will not sit in one isolated technical stream - it will help bring the overall systems engineering and integration approach together.
Duties and responsibilities include:
Lead the systems engineering lifecycle from requirements and architecture through to integration planning
Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams across systems, software, hardware and product streams
Define technical architecture across complex railway systems and subsystems
Oversee integration between signalling, telecoms, SCADA, rolling stock, interlocking and trackside systems
Champion RAMS, system assurance, verification, validation and certification planning
Support technical trade-off decisions during the ECI phase with customer and stakeholder input
We are looking for someone with:
Deep railway systems engineering or systems integration experience, ideally 15+ years
Strong exposure to ERTMS / ETCS Level 1 and 2, CBTC, RAMS and complex rail systems integration
Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, not just acting as a technical specialist
Strong understanding of system assurance, V&V, safety-critical systems and certification
Exposure to standards such as EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129, IEC 61508, TSIs or SIL targets
Relevant engineering qualifications, ideally in Electrical, Electronic, Railway or Systems Engineering
Experience working on high speed rail projects highly regarded
