Disability Support Worker – Live-In Preferred

We are seeking a compassionate, reliable and experienced Disability Support Worker to provide individualised support to a person who uses a wheelchair. This role would suit someone who is confident with personal care, mobility assistance and supporting a person to live as independently and safely as possible.

The successful candidate will provide respectful, person-centred support in the client’s home and community. A live-in arrangement is preferred, and free accommodation will be provided as part of the role. For the right candidate, there may also be an opportunity for employer sponsorship, subject to eligibility and applicable visa requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the client with daily living activities and personal care as required.
• Support safe wheelchair use, mobility and transfers.
• Assist with showering, dressing, toileting and continence support where required.
• Support meal preparation, eating, hydration and household tasks.
• Assist with medication in accordance with the client’s care plan and organisational procedures.
• Support attendance at medical appointments, community activities and social outings.
• Encourage independence, choice, dignity and participation in everyday decision-making.
• Monitor and report changes in the client’s health, wellbeing or support needs.
• Maintain accurate progress notes and other required documentation.
• Follow manual handling, infection control, workplace health and safety and emergency procedures.
• Work respectfully with family members, health professionals and other members of the client’s support team.

About you

We are looking for someone who is caring, patient, trustworthy and genuinely committed to supporting people with disability. Experience supporting someone who uses a wheelchair is highly desirable, particularly experience with manual handling, transfers and personal care.

Ideally, you will have:

• Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, Aged Care or a related qualification.
• Previous disability support or personal care experience.
• Experience supporting people with physical disability and wheelchair mobility.
• Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
• Current NDIS Worker Screening Check or willingness to obtain one.
• Working with Children Check if required for the role.
• Current Australian driver's licence, preferably with access to a reliable vehicle.
• Good communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and respond appropriately in an emergency.
• Willingness to undertake relevant training based on the client's individual support needs.

Sponsorship may be considered for a suitable candidate who meets the relevant immigration, qualification, experience and employment requirements. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and will be assessed on an individual basis.
