Location: Gippsland (Traralgon) to attend training in Melbourne when needed.

About the RFMHS:

• Embedded within Forensicare’s Community Directorate, the RFMHS comprise eight teams across the state - one in each Wellbeing region (three in metropolitan Melbourne and five in regional Victoria). These teams operate as ‘spokes’ to Forensicare’s central Community Forensic Mental Health Services (CFMHS) ‘hub’.
• Each RFMHS team is multidisciplinary, including a manager, medical, nursing and allied health (psychology, social work, occupational therapy) clinicians, as well as administrative support. The teams deliver services to people aged 18 years and over with forensic mental health concerns.
• RFMHS teams provide consultation, case management, supervision, care coordination and psychological interventions to individuals living in, or transitioning to the community.

About the Role:

• The Senior Clinician will improve outcomes for consumers who have offending risks/problem behaviours and mental illness, and their families and carers through:
• Improving access to Forensicare’s specialist forensic mental health services.
• Coordination of care, strengthening referral pathways and providing transition support between specialist mental health care, correctional services and prisons.
• Improving the capability of key local services to manage offending risks of consumers and appropriately refer consumers for specialist assessment and treatment.
• Managing pathways out of Thomas Embling Hospital, to ensure consumers transitioning to live in the community are well supported.

Duties:

• Proactively develop and maintain professional relationships with the relevant AMHWS, and forensic clinical specialists.
• Proactively develop links with other mental health and social support services who provide services required to meet the needs of consumers and/or require forensic mental health support.
• Provide specialist primary, secondary and tertiary consultation services for AMHWS and other key stakeholders, including advanced specialist forensic mental health assessments, risk assessments, reports, and advice on the assessment and management of complex forensic mental health issues.
• Contribute to consumer risk management plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.
• Provide Care Coordination for Serious Offenders who require ongoing mental health treatment and oversight.
• Provide case management of consumers on extended leave from Thomas Embling Hospital.
• Provide supervision of consumers under a Non-Custodial Supervision Order disposition under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997
• Support people transitioning from prisons to the region.

About You:

• Experience working in forensic mental health including forensic mental health risk assessment, care planning and service delivery. Alternatively, candidates with strong clinical experience working for Area Mental Health & Wellbeing Services (AMHWS) and a motivation to develop forensic mental health skills are encouraged to apply.
• Demonstrated minimum 5-year post registration mental health experience.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake comprehensive psychosocial and risk assessments and to plan, implement and evaluate clinical interventions.
• Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery and person-centered and family/carer inclusive care, incorporating consumer and family and carer perspectives into service delivery.

Qualifications, knowledge, experience:

• This is a multidisciplinary role that requires a relevant tertiary qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate Board or Association as a Registered Nurse, Psychologist, Social Worker or Occupational Therapist.
• The qualifications required for each discipline are:

Registered Nurse RPN4:

• Must have current unrestricted registration with AHPRA and a post-graduate qualification in mental health nursing or equivalent.

Psychologist Grade 3:

• General registration with AHPRA
• Masters or Doctorate qualifications (Clinical, Forensic or Neuropsychology)
• Eligibility for (or enrolled in) an Area of Practice Endorsement in clinical psychology, clinical neuropsychology, and/or forensic psychology.

Social Worker Grade 3:

• Tertiary qualifications in Social Work coupled with eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).

Occupational Therapist Grade 3:

• Current Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner’s Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
• Approved degree in Occupational Therapy and recognised for membership of OT Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists.
• Understanding and commitment to working within the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia’s Australian Occupational Therapy competency standards (2018) and Code of Ethics.
