About the Opportunity
Some kitchens hand you a manual. This one hands you the keys.
A well established, privately owned venue on the Central Coast is looking for a head chef to take genuine ownership of its kitchen. Not to hold the line, not to follow a group playbook written in another city, but to lead. The menu, the costings, the suppliers, the standards, the training, the direction of the food. Yours.
This is a business with a loyal local following, a strong reputation and an ownership small enough that your ideas land on the right desk in a day, not a quarter. The kitchen is modern, spacious and properly equipped, and the produce is the good stuff. What has been missing is the person to pull it all together.
The Role
As head chef, you will take full ownership of the kitchen and the food, working closely with a hands on venue manager and an accessible ownership group.
You will be responsible for:
Leading daily kitchen operations and service standards
Designing, costing and evolving a produce led menu
Menu engineering, food cost and labour management
Supplier relationships and buying
Recruiting, training and mentoring the kitchen team
Rostering and kitchen performance
Maintaining consistency and quality across every service
Working with senior leadership on revenue, reputation and growth
Building a culture of accountability, development and respect
About You
We are looking for a chef who has already carried a kitchen and wants to carry one properly this time.
You will likely bring:
Proven experience as a head chef in a quality venue.
Genuine menu creation ability. Dishes that sell, not just dishes that read well
Strong commercial skills across costings, margins, labour and stock
Leadership people actually respond to. The team here is good and has been here a long time, they simply need direction and someone to look up to
Clear, confident communication with your brigade, your suppliers and your venue manager
Availability across the weekend, when the venue is at its busiest
High standards without the ego
Most importantly, you will be someone who still wants to build something. Someone who reads a P&L and a section at the same time. Someone who understands that the best kitchens are won on fundamentals, consistency and people, not on complication.
Why This Role?
Most head chef jobs ask you to protect what already exists. This one asks you to take it somewhere better.
You will have the freedom to create, the budget to back it, and an ownership group that measures you on what you deliver rather than how well you fill in a form.
If you get it right, the ceiling here is set by you, and that is not a line, it is how they have run it.
If you are a head chef who wants ownership, a team worth leading and a business that will back you, we would like to hear from you.
