The opportunity

We are seeking a Production & Quality Technician to become an integral part of a tight-knit team at an established precast concrete manufacturing facility in the Illawarra region. The business produces concrete culverts, plinths and pits supplied to government departments and blue-chip clients across Australia, and continues to grow year on year.

This is a hands-on, multi-skilled role for someone who takes pride in finished concrete product going out to standard. A meaningful part of the role involves repairing, patching and finishing cured precast products to a quality standard before despatch, alongside operating the forklift to move and despatch finished goods around the yard. You will work closely with the owner and production team to keep quality high and product moving.

Key responsibilities, Production & Quality Technician

Quality control and product repair:

• Inspect cured precast products (culverts, plinths, pits) for surface defects, chips, voids and finish quality before despatch.
• Patch, fill and rework surface defects on cured product using cementitious patching compounds and appropriate finishing techniques.
• Touch up edges, corners and exposed surfaces so finished product meets the standard expected by government and blue-chip clients.
• Feed observations on recurring defects or production issues back to the team to support continuous improvement.
• Maintain simple records of QA checks and any rework carried out.

Forklift and yard operations:

• Safely operate the forklift to move precast concrete products (culverts, plinths, pits) around the yard.
• Load and unload delivery trucks accurately and efficiently in line with despatch schedules.
• Stage finished product for despatch and assist with stocktaking and inventory checks.
• Conduct daily pre-start checks on the forklift and report any faults.

Site upkeep and teamwork:

• Keep work areas, walkways and storage zones tidy, organised and safe.
• Carry out minor upkeep on yard equipment and the facility, and flag larger issues to the owner.
• Support the production team with general labour during busy periods.
• Adhere strictly to WHS procedures and contribute to a safe, well-run workplace.

About you

• Certification and experience: You hold a current SafeWork NSW LF Forklift Licence and bring substantial hands-on experience in a manufacturing, civil products, fabrication or construction environment. Experience with concrete patching, finishing or precast product repair work is highly regarded. Backgrounds in precast concrete, civil products, manufacturing, steel fabrication, agri-processing or similar heavy industries are ideal.
• Technical skills: You have a good eye for surface finish and product quality, and either know your way around concrete patching and finishing techniques or are willing to learn. You are confident operating a forklift and manoeuvring heavy and oversized product safely. Basic mechanical aptitude, confident with simple repairs and equipment upkeep, rounds out the role.
• Soft skills: With strong communication, time management and multitasking abilities, you work well both independently and as part of a small, collaborative team where everyone mucks in.
• Adaptability and learning: You're a proactive learner who embraces new tasks and is always looking for ways to enhance efficiency, safety and quality in your work.
• Licences and certifications: You hold a valid manual driver's licence and a White Card (Construction Induction). Additional certifications such as an HR truck licence, elevated work platform certification, confined space certification, or a trade background in concrete finishing or mechanical fitting are a plus.

• Standard Monday to Friday daytime schedule, with optional overtime opportunities.
