We're on the lookout for a passionate and experienced Sous Chef to join our fast-paced, quality-driven Indian restaurant in Melbourne. This is a hands-on leadership role suited for someone who thrives under pressure, takes pride in consistency, and is ready to step up and lead a strong kitchen team.
About the Role
As Sous Chef, you'll be second-in-command in the kitchen and play a key role in maintaining quality, consistency, and team performance.
You will:
Lead service with precision, ensuring every dish meets our standards
Run the kitchen confidently in the absence of the Head Chef
Oversee prep, sections, and service flow during busy periods
Train and mentor junior chefs and kitchen staff
Maintain consistency in flavours, spice balance, and presentation
Assist with ordering, stock control, and minimising wastage
Uphold strict food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards
Work closely with FOH to deliver a smooth guest experience
What We're Looking For
Minimum 2–3 years experience as a Sous Chef
Preferably Strong experience in Indian cuisine (curries, tandoor, spices)
Background in a high-volume restaurant environment
High-volume restaurant experience from indian cuisine type is highly preferred
Proven leadership skills and ability to run a busy service
Calm, organised, and reliable under pressure
Passion for food, hospitality, and team development
High standards of cleanliness and kitchen discipline
Requirements
Full working rights in Australia
Availability to work weekends and evenings
Salary
$70,000 – $85,000 + Super (based on experience)
